Job Description

Police Communication Operator (Open)

Under general supervision, performs police communications and related clerical work in a central communications center.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates police radio, telephone and computer terminals to relay information between police units, complainants, citizens or other agencies. Carries out directives of the Shift Supervisor; requests for escort service and directives as assigned. Announces radio station identification calls on an hourly basis. Broadcasts detailed descriptions of missing and/or wanted persons. Provides record/warrant checks for police personnel. Prepares assignment sheets as directed. Maintains logs and records relative to police operations. Responsible for assisting the Shift Commander within adjacent areas safeguard equipment and material in the Communications Control Room. Maintains Administrative Call-In log, recording time when shifts report for duty, and leave usage. Monitors closed-circuit television, computerized card access, alarm systems and follows prescribed procedures for effective use thereof. Submits reports when required and/or requested by competent authority. Maintains accurate database records for all BSU parking citations, daily, as assigned by the PCO Lead/Supervisor. Other administrative duties as assigned.
